Wedding MBA Wrap Up
Still in Vegas with a couple thousand fellow wedding professionals. The room is packed with 3500 wedding professionals. Pretty cool, huh? On stage Carley Roney, from The Knot.
Here’s my Wedding MBA Wrap Up:
What is Wedding MBA?
The Wedding MBA (Merchant Business Association), is a conference for wedding professionals education on the latest in Business, Technology, Style, Trends, & Specialties in the world of weddings. It’s everything from the Art of Wedding DJing to Thinking Outside the Photo Booth Box, and so much more in one huge convention center.
Some of the speakers included Alan Berg (his new book is great), Sonny from WeddingWire (always gives the best presentations), people from The Knot, and American Disc Jockey Association (sponsored all the DJ sessions!) and many others.
Why Do Some Wedding Pros Attend and Some Not?
You know the story:
Very strong woodcutter gets job with a timber merchant. The pays very well and good working conditions. Woodcutter ready to do good work.
Boss gives him an axe and takes him to work site.
The first day, the woodcutter cut 18 trees.
Boss says “Great, keep up the same numbers!”
On fire, the woodcutter cut even harder the next day, but only cut 15 trees. Third day the strong man cut even harder, but only cut 10 trees. Each day, less trees!
“I’m losing it”, the woodcutter said, “Boss, I don’t know what’s happening. They’re just not coming down like before.”
The boss asked, “Have you tried sharpening your axe?”
“Sharpen? I got no time to sharpen my axe. I have been too busy chopping trees…”
Wedding professionals will think of every excuse to not be continually training. And it doesn’t have to be the WMBA. You don’t even have to travel to learn. Local networking groups, business seminars, online research and webinars. No excuses. So my bravo to all who continue to grow. Don’t Ever Stop!
How Will This Help Your Wedding?
If you can get just one nugget of priceless information from any source when planning your wedding it would be totally worth it, right?
Here’s one example. There is a wedding venue in the Chicago are that is very nice for what they do. They’re a little harried sometimes when they have more than one event, because they split their resources between each separate party. When that happens it can really blow your timeline to pieces. But what they really needed improvement on was their room layout. I’m not saying the room and the tables weren’t fantastic, they always are. But their dance floor layout left something to be desired.
At the first event I did there they mistakenly set up the dance floor to fit the size of the 300 guests attending. So what happened when only 200, or 150, people were dancing? The dance floor looked half empty.
I attended a seminar where the spacing of floors, the high and the low measurements, were discussed. Next wedding the couple that hired ChicagoWeddingDJs had the perfect dance floor size.
And the next year I invited them to join us at the Wedding MBA!
That’s it for the Wedding MBA Wrap Up.
You could say now that I’ve attended I have graduated with a Wedding MBA degree. 🙂
