ChicagoWeddingDJs Wedding MBA Wrap Up
It takes commitment to attend industry events. This year more than ever. The tragedy that took place in Las Vegas shadowed all those who attended the conference, and ultimately brought us together. Amazing people!
And on stage David Tutera.
David presented: TOTALLY TUTERA – Celebrity Wedding Secrets. He spoke about starting at the age of 19 and the steps his career has taken. The Q&A session was enlightening as he addressed questions with candor and sincerity!
Here’s my ChicagoWeddingDJs Wedding MBA Wrap Up:
What is Wedding MBA?
The Wedding MBA (Merchant Business Association), is a conference for wedding professionals education on the latest in Business, Technology, Style, Trends, & Specialties in the world of weddings. It’s everything from the Art of Wedding DJing to Thinking Outside the Photo Booth Box, and so much more in one huge convention center.
Some of the speakers included Alan Berg (he does the best on stage crowd selfies), Sonny from WeddingWire (the latest in technology and always fun videos), people from The Knot, and American Disc Jockey Association (sponsored all the DJ sessions, as well as David Tutera!) and many others (Ron Ruth!).
The Challenge of Attending An Industry Conference
It takes guts, determination, and commitment to attend an industry conference. You have to turn your focus away from the day to day of your business (not entirely, because you are attending an out of town event while still fulfilling your business obligations).
You need to travel and make arrangements. And there is the financial commitment.
Speaking of travel. This year my flight was scheduled to land in Las Vegas at 11:30. Approaching the city at the same time there was an active shooter situation. The city was shut down and in chaos. Our flight was diverted another hour to Phoenix.
When we landed, we were stuck on the tarmac for two hours waiting for a gate. Once a gate was assigned we were trapped in the plane for another hour waiting for the plane to be refueled. After this long time the crew could no longer legally remain on the plane, so we were forced off the plane and out of the airport stranded in the middle of the night.
With no food available, no flights out, and the promise of a 5 hour bus ride that didn’t materialize until 10 am the next morning.
Suffice it to say people were pissed.
But what we suffered was little compared to what was happening in Las Vegas.
Thankful to have a ride through the deserts of Arizona, we arrived in Las Vegas late the next afternoon, having missed the first day of the conference.
How Does an Industry Come Together Over Tragedy?
You care for each other a little more. You pray for those deeply effected by the events.
And then two industry giants, The Knot & WeddingWire combined to support those in need.
Both these groups throw amazing celebrations each year.
This year, despite the sadness over the city, they combined their parties into one big fundraising event. Over $16,000 were raised to help the victims and the families of those lost.
ChicagoWeddingDJs was a part of an event that changed the way we all think about what a conference can be.
That’s it for the ChicagoWeddingDJs Wedding MBA Wrap Up.
If you are in the wedding industry please make plans to attend and then you can say you graduated with a Wedding MBA degree. 🙂
