Kelly Eyerman grew up just 10 miles from Thomas Morris in New Jersey, yet it wasn’t until they were both working and living in New York City that they finally met.
Even cooler, they learned on their first date there was more, much more, they had in common—and it wasn’t just that they shared a love of the same music and pastimes. They also had mutual friends (who were married to each other!) and were delivered by the same obstetrician in a hospital in Teaneck, N.J. “Don’t ask how we figured all this out but we had so much to talk about!” Kelly says.
“I wanted everyone to see how beautiful New Jersey is!” says the bride. “I had this image of a modern Great Gatsby wedding, with lots of food, liquor, dancing, elegance and most importantly, enough room to have a beautiful outdoor space for the cocktail hour.”
With these sorts of ties to the Garden State, Kelly knew from the get-go they had to marry there. But she admits it was far from obvious to a lot of their friends harking from elsewhere (with Tom working in Connecticut, the couple living in Manhattan and Kelly’s school chums from Florida and Los Angeles).
“I wanted everyone to see how beautiful New Jersey is!” says the bride of her self-imposed wedding planning challenge. “It was fun to have people finally cross the bridge and be shocked at what New Jersey has to offer.”
Her glorious mission came to fruition on June 16, 2012 at the Hackensack Golf Club. “I had this image of a modern Great Gatsby wedding, with lots of food, liquor, dancing, elegance and most importantly, enough room to have a beautiful outdoor space for the cocktail hour,” recalls Kelly. It wasn’t until Tom suggested the venue where he grew up playing golf that the bride found her dream location–right under her nose. Plus, since the groom’s family had been members for over 20 years, Kelly received top-notch service throughout the planning.
