This took a lot of preparation. You want to spend some time imagining what your toast will be.
Here are five tips you can learn from this:
1. Practice, Practice, Practice. No matter what you will say, no matter what you will do. You will want to live with your message in preparation 24/7. Exaggerated right? You’ve got a life to live. But save a part of your brain where you are working on your toast ALL THE TIME.
2. Go With The Flow. Keep rapping. When her helper is putting on the hoody, the time might not be what she expected. But she kept on rapping. Keep rapping, my friend.
3. Use Notes. If you can memorize, work off bullet points, and then tell your story; you’ll be golden. She didn’t really need the notes, it’s just a lot of words and she wanted the reassurance of notes just in case. It’s cool, just in case. But if you followed tip number 1, you won’t need them.
4. Write Real Good. She emulates the cadence of the rap. She put in her own words, but she paid attention to the value of sticking with the rhyme as much as possible. Feel free to be inspired, but make it as understandable as possible. See how many times she actually gets people to raise their glass, how many times she gets a cheer or a big laugh. Think she planned it that way? Oh yeah. You can do the same.
5. Keep It A Surprise. The best moments are the unexpected. Do you think the people who knew she was a singer might have expected her to sing. But did they expect her to rap? No way, but way. It’s OK to solicit the assistance of people in the room, but think about creating the unexpected. You’ll be great!
Wedding celebration toasters everywhere. Know your couple. Make it personal. Wow!
