Why are we so nostalgic for music we loved when we were younger?
You think about a song you loved when you were 20? You get a Bliss Blast. Why is that?
Because the age of 20 is where research points to the peak occurs according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reminiscence_bump:
“…memory storage increases during times of changes in the self and in life goals, such as the changes in identity that occur during adolescence.[3]…”
When one of our Chicago Wedding DJs clients says: “The music I hear today is not what I like to listen to.” I totally understand.
When you’re thinking about the songs you want us to play at your wedding (everything from cocktail/dinner to the dance party), pick the songs that will give you the most bliss!
For me I have songs from when I was younger that really give me a boost. Loved ’em then, love ’em now. Always will. But as a DJ I am inspired by what inspires you. I hear the magic in each word, I feel the power in each beat, I love the passion of each note. That is one of the great gifts of playing the soundtrack to your Lives. Does that mean there aren’t songs that make me just go: “What is this crap they’re playing today?” Of course not. But I guarantee you there are loads of songs that you love, that hands down are my personal favorites too.
What is one of your faves from your youth?
