“Mr. Sandman, send me a dream….”
A song by The Chordettes from Sheboygan, WI. “…make him the cutest that I’ve ever seen…”
So you have your dream and now you’re planning a wedding. It’s going to take lots of extra time and will take over much of your thinking even when you’re doing other things.
So it’s important to get your rest. Not just the week of your wedding but all through the planning process of your Chicago wedding.
Here’s some tips:
Power Nap
Falling asleep at the office not good? But a 15-20 minute nap can lead to alertness and better memory retention. in Japan, it’s considered a positive effect of working too hard, and often faked by those looking to be more committed to their job.
Famous Power Nappers in modern times:
Allison P Davis of nymag.com writes:
So here’s some news: Being alive is exhausting. And occasionally requires brief sleep interludes outside of normal sleeping hours.
These interludes are called naps. Marissa Mayer took one, made headlines, and issued an apology in an interview with Bloomberg. Then Cara Delevingne took naps during a Vogue interview — but since the offended party was Plum Sykes, Delvingne chose to tweet an angry defense rather than apologize. “All I can say is that I work extremely hard and ‘sleeping’ is proof that sometimes I work too hard,” she wrote. “I apologise for being so ambitious.”
Sleeping Late
Had a few martini’s last night? Wake up call after Noon? Sounds good. But it’s not healthy and you know it. Consistency is the key, no matter what time you get up. Spoil yourself once in a while. But remember wedding planning is like a marathon and you need to keep pace to finish right.
Famous Late Sleepers in modern times:
In olden times any activities at night would have been unique.
And drawn to inquisitive minded people. And you are nothing if not inquisitive, right?
Famous night owl: President Obama “I’m a night owl. My usual day [is]: I work out in the morning; I get to the office around 8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.; work till about 6:30 p.m.; have dinner with the family, hang out with the kids and put them to bed about 8:30 p.m. And then I’ll probably read briefing papers or do paperwork or write stuff until about 11:30 p.m. and then I usually have about a half hour to read before I go to bed . . . about midnight, 12:30 a.m. — sometimes a little later.”
The Epic Nap
The Epic Nap can be dangerous if you wake up and you’re really groggy. It can have the opposite effect. But if you feel like that short nap could turn into something Epic, then go for it. You’ve been working hard planning a wedding, you deserve it.
Early to Bed
Easier said than done. There are those that will tell you we are programmed for this as the norm. But hey they’re not living your life. Believe me, as DJ’s early to bed is not an option. And that’s not just on the weekends. During the week there are evening meetings and planning sessions; networking events and follow up. We’ve got to be on our toes for all of this. I like to get to bed early when I can for a morning workout. But whatever you do, make the best of it. Losing sleep for too long will of course hurt your productivity.
Whatever your sleep habit, make good use of the time you have, pick good people to work with, and let yourself off the hook with a nice nap. Who knows you could create something magical that you’ll remember for years to come!
