The Wedding Bridezilla Myth Exposed
The myth of bridezilla has been documented by the media on television, radio, and in print. Find out what makes for a bridezilla experience, and whether bridezillas really exist.
In this blog post Chicago Wedding DJ Peter Merkle writes about the truth of bridezilla, and how to de-mystify it.
On the cable television show Bridezillas episodes brides are shown interacting with their family, friends, and service providers. The interactions are almost always negative, showing the bride-to-be as out of control, pushy, temperamental, and doing whatever it takes to get what she wants.
To be honest, I think Bridezillas are a myth.
The myth of Bridezilla has been perpetrated by the media. You could say outrageous sells.
Now, are there nervous, sometimes annoyed, brides? Yes.
Wouldn’t you be with all the event planning skills put into action putting a huge celebration like a wedding together. Nervous and annoyed for good reason, when vendors don’t respond, when the bride feels like they aren’t listening.
You rely on your dream team to provide you with the professional advice and skill you need. This gives you the choices that allow you to put together a tremendous celebration.
The media especially, gives brides planning a wedding too little credit. Their desire to have a wonderfully memorable celebration is decent and should be respected.
5 reasons why Bridezilla is a myth:
- -TV shows and media manipulate the truth
- -Push anyone too far and they could get upset
- -A wedding should have high expectations for success
- -Sadly, bad stories get told more often, and are often, um, embellished
- -Brides are smarter than that
What I found is that wedding couples deserve way more than they’re getting. They want to have a simple and fun planning process that gets things into place your way! And they want someone they can trust, that will give them the honest advice they need, & listen to what their heart wants for your wedding day.
Discover a More Sensible Way to Plan a Wedding
So if you know a bride who is freaking out, here are some tips:
First of all it’s OK to feel overwhelmed, just don’t stay that way. If you can start from the beginning, when choosing a wedding professional for your team you should keep this in mind: “Will working with this person give me anxiety?”
Doesn’t matter how good they are if they are not fun to work with, it’s not worth it. It comes down to trust.
If you can feel comfortable with your trusted vendor, when the time comes to take care of things you’ll know it’s OK.
Making this research up front, and a good deal of trusting your instinct, will help after all the research.
Do you feel pressured up front? You could be let down later.
Make a decision and then not hear from the vendor? Or worse have interest and get no follow up. Obvious signs.
You’ll catch them sooner than later and have the peace of mind that the media exploited bride should have, could have, and deserves.
