Maine Wedding Gives Half Of The Guests Coronavirus, Outbreak Leads To 177 Covid-19 Cases And 7 Deaths
In what should have been a day to remember for the couple, the memory certainly turned into one for all the wrong reasons. They had a 55-person reception, appropriately enough in these times. A small town in Maine was the location. It ended up with half the guests getting Covid. 50%. That then lead to an outbreak involving 177 people, killing 7 of those in the outbreak.
Reporting on the outbreak 11/12/2020 the CDC detailed that one attendee reported Covid-19 symptoms the day after the wedding. This led to 27 out of 55 wedding attendees being diagnosed with the virus.
Three more cases were found in other people at the venue including staff. That first case was thought to be a person who attending the wedding on August 7th, then reporting Covid-19 symptoms the next day.
The day of the wedding, Maine had a limit of 50 persons for each event. Guests, however, reportedly did not wear masks. Additionally it was reported that no one observed physical distancing rules.
It should be noted that the guests had temperature checks done at the entrance of the venue. However, with Covid many people do not report having a fever, it’s considered to be a very limiting method of detection
Finally, suggestion have been made that the temperature checks might do more harm than good. Because they give people a false sense of security. This false sense of security causes them to be less cautious with other protective measures. Which would be like masking and physical distancing.
